Book: "Someone Held My Hand," by Gene Bishop & Tony Atkinson
$ 12.95
A heart-warming collection of stories from the children who have passed through the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Greenwood SC, on how the experience shaped their lives.
Some of the stories are short, some are longer, some will touch your heart, and some will even make you smile or find a tear in your eye. The stories have a common thread in that they show a love for Connie Maxwell; they convey a desire that the reader know more about Connie Maxwell; and they give full credit to God, Connie Maxwell, and the home's staff for the experience that shaped their lives.
What Is the Connie Maxwell Children's Home?
When their young daughter, Connie, died in 1892, Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Maxwell donated several hundred acres of land in Greenwood, South Carolina for the founding of an orphanage in memory of their little girl. Today, the main campus of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home is still there on the original land given by the Maxwell’s. Besides the main campus, Connie Maxwell has additional homes in Mauldin, Orangeburg, Florence, and Chesterfield, SC.
Whether orphaned, abandoned, neglected, or abused, more than 16,000 children have been blessed by this special ministry since 1892.
The staff at Connie Maxwell (some of them are former students themselves and many who have given a lifetime of service to Connie Maxwell) are dedicated Christians who are understanding, caring, patient and loving with a genuine heart for each and every child.
The children who have come through the doors of Connie Maxwell will tell you, with their hearts and with their minds, that Connie Maxwell was not just “another placement” for them nor is it an “institution.” They will, quickly and with great conviction, tell you that Connie Maxwell is the place where they go for family reunions. Connie Maxwell is HOME.
All proceeds from this book will be donated to the general operating fund at Connie Maxwell.
